About Weird Harold

In 1974 California native Harold graduated top of class from Broadcasting school.

His radio career started in the San Joaquin Valley (KOLI, KBOS/KGEN, KKYS/KNGS) and the Bay Area
(KFAT-Gilroy).

Although Harold started at the bottom, he worked mainly in middle-management for much of his radio career.

After KFAT-Gilroy was sold, he moved to Garberville in 1983 to work for the first radio station there, KERG.

In 1987 he trained over 125 people how to operate radio equipment for Redwood Community Radio: KMUD,
where he was the first Program Director, helping to formulate the program grid that is still in use today.

He was on the Board Of Directors of Redwood Community Radio for a total of nine years and continues to be
involved with programming as a member of the Program Selection & Review Council.

He later moved to Portland, Oregon for a few years and worked at KKJZ from 1996-1998.

Around 2000 he moved back to northwest California, and once again became involved with KMUD .

He became involved with friends discussing the possibility of low power radio for the Laytonville area after the idea was proposed by Long John (Harold's radio partner) around the year 2010. It all came together in
2013 when Long Valley Communications was officially created.
